READ: 2 Kings 2:23-24

  1. And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head.
  2. And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalms 99-102, Romans 13:1-14

MESSAGE:

The children in our Bible reading meant no harm when they made fun of Elisha, the man of God. Unfortunately, they ended in the belly of two bears. If you’re fond of jesting or joking, watch it. A teenager who doesn’t revere God or elders and goes about making fun of their expressions or physique will one day get his fingers burnt. If you are one of those who write down grammatical blunders made by elders in order to analyze and laugh at them, be very careful. God is a consuming fire; he doesn’t tolerate unhealthy jokes that don’t bring glory to His name. This could be the reason for some children’s mysterious death or inexplicable illnesses.

With the advent of social media, some have already pronounced curses on themselves by attacking or making jests of men of God online. The next time you come across such posts, instead of getting involved, scroll away. Don’t be caught in the web of jesting and if you’re guilty of this in any way, run to God and ask for mercy today so that this wont stand against you on the judgment day.

PRAYER POINT:

Lord, please have mercy on me and help me to guard my mouth.

HYMN: Christian Seek Not Yet Repose

  1. Christian, seek not yet repose,
    Hear thy guardian angel say,
    “Thou art in the midst of foes:
    Watch and pray!
  2. Principalities and powers,
    Mustering their unseen array,
    Wait for thine unguarded hours:
    “Watch and pray!
  3. Gird thy heavenly armour on,
    Wear it every night and day,
    Ambushed lies the evil one:
    “Watch and pray!
  4. Hear the victors who overcame;
    Still they mark each warrior’s way,
    All with one sweet voice exclaim,
    “Watch and pray!
  5. Hear, above all, hear thy Lord,
    Him thou lovest to obey;
    Hide within thy heart His word,
    “Watch and pray!
  6. Watch, as if on that alone
    Hung the issue of the day;
    Pray, that help may be sent down:
    “Watch and pray!”
