TOPIC: Joy And Happiness [Open Heaven for Teens 14 December 2021]
MEMORISE: READ: Psalms 16:5-6
- The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.
- The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.
MEMORISE: Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalms 16:11
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Amos 2-3, Revelation 5:1-14
MESSAGE:
One thing many people look for is joy, whether through material things or in personal achievements. For instance, when you come first in your class, your dad buys a new car, or you got admission into a higher institution, you will be very happy. You may even celebrate it like my father did when he bought an umbrella which happened to be his most prized possession until his death. Happiness is short lived and can disappear, but joy is deeper and long lasting.

Some teenagers desire to stay permanently happy so they consume drugs, alcohol and other substances that they claim make them high. They intend to stay in cloud nine but Satan’s offer is always short lived. Before they know it, they are dumped far below where they started and some eventually become insane. By the grace of God, my wife has interacted with many teenage drug addicts through her “Christ Against Drug Abuse Ministry” (CADAM) initiative. Many got hooked on drugs but ran to Jesus for deliverance when they saw that their lives were falling apart. Whatever you seek may give you happy moments but Jesus is the true source of joy.
KEY POINT:
Nothing can make you as high as the Most High.
HYMN: All To Jesus I Surrender
- All to Jesus I surrender,
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live
CHORUS
I surrender all, I surrender all;
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.
- All to Jesus I surrender,
Humbly at His feet I bow;
Worldly pleasures all forsaken,
Take me, Jesus, take me now. - All to Jesus I surrender,
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power,
Let Thy blessing fall on me. - All to Jesus I surrender,
Now I feel the sacred flame;
O the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory to His name!
