TOPIC: Costly Greatness [Open Heaven for Teens 14 June 2022]

MEMORISE: He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap. Ecclesiastes 11:4

READ: Mark 9:29

And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: John 21:1-25, Ezra 6-8

MESSAGE:

In my youth, I was committed to achieving success. Though my family was considered the poorest in my village, I decided I was not going to die poor. I developed principles and values in line with the word of God that guided me to become who I am today. The truth is, no one becomes great accidentally or by wishful thinking. Greatness comes as a result of hard work, which would cost you your time, resources, money, sleep or comfort generally.

Some of you sleep until 10:00a.m. whereas, your classmate woke up at 5:00a.m. and invested five hours developing other areas of his/her life. Do you think you will have the same output? No way!

The same applies to spirituality; if you want God to use you mightily, you must deny yourself of many things and become committed to your continued growth. You cant afford to be lazy and allow greatness slip by you. Greatness doesn’t come easily, so you have to work for it committedly.

KEY POINT:

A great person sees every mountain as a stepping stone to greatness.

HYMN: I’m Pressing On The Upward Way

  1. I’m pressing on the upward way,
    New heights I’m gaining every day;
    Still praying as I onward bound,
    “Lord, plant my feet on higher ground”.

Chorus:
Lord, lift me up and let me stand,
By faith on heaven’s table-land;
Where love and joy and light abound,
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.

  1. My heart has no desire to stay,
    Where doubts arise and fears dismay;
    Though some may dwell where
    these abound,
    My constant aim is higher ground.
  2. Beyond the mist I fain would rise,
    To rest beneath unclouded skies,
    Above earth’s turmoil peace is found
    By those who dwell on higher ground.
  3. I long to scale the utmost height,
    Though rough the way, and hard the fight,
    My song while climbing shall resound
    Lord lead me on to higher ground.
  4. Lord lead me up the mountain side,
    I dare not climb without my Guide;
    And heaven gained, I’ll gaze around,
    With grateful heart from higher ground
