Topic: Discouraged? [Open Heaven for Teens 15 February 2021]

MEMORISE: Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance. Psalms 42:5

READ: 1 Kings 19:1-4

1 Now Ahab told Jezebel everything Elijah had done and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword.

2 So Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah to say, “May the gods deal with me, be it ever so severely, if by this time tomorrow I do not make your life like that of one of them.

3 Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judeh, he left his servant there,

4 while he himself went a day’s journey into the desert. He came to a broom tree, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, Lord ,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.”

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Leviticus 20-21; Mathew 28

MESSAGE:

To be discouraged means to lack courage. It is a state of mind marked by fear of failure and loss of hope. Discouragement often comes when a fellow is about to achieve an important feat in life. For instance, God promised to take the Israelites to the Promised Land. He delivered them from the hands of their slave masters in Egypt. He parted the Red sea for them to walk on dry land and caused Pharaoh and his men who were in a hot pursuit after them to perish in the sea. He also provided manna from heaven for them. When they wanted flesh, He provided them with quails. He fought and won many battles for them but when they were faced with giants, they became discouraged, except Joshua and Caleb. This made God angry, so, He said Joshua, Caleb and those who were twenty years and below would enter Canaan Land.

What have you been asking from God? Don’t stop asking, the answer is here. Are you about to write an examination and you don’t know the subject or course well enough and as a result you have marked yourself low? That mindset is not of God. Study hard for it and ask the Holy Spirit for help today. Never give room for discouragement.

ACTION POINT:

Declare the word of God concerning your situation today.

HYMN 16: My Faith Looks Up To Thee

  1. My faith looks up to Thee,
    Thou Lamb of Calvary,
    Savior divine!
Now hear me while I pray,
    Take all my guilt away,
Oh, let me from this day
    Be wholly Thine!
  2. May Thy rich grace impart
    Strength to my fainting heart,
    My zeal inspire!
As Thou hast died for me,
Oh, may my love to Thee
    Pure, warm and changeless be,
    A living fire!
  3. While life’s dark maze I tread,
    And griefs around me spread,
    Be Thou my guide; i
    Bid darkness turn to day,
    Wipe sorrow’s tears away,
    Nor let me ever stray
    From Thee aside.
  4. When ends life’s transient dream,
    When death’s cold sullen stream
    Shall o’er me roll;
    Blest Savior, then, in love,
    Fear and distrust remove;
    Oh, bear me safe above,
    A ransomed soul.
