TOPIC: Save Money 1 [Open Heaven for Teens 15 February 2024]
MEMORISE: There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up. Proverbs 21:20
READ: Proverbs 6:6-8
6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
8 Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
MESSAGE
As you grow older, your needs and wants will also increase despite limited resources. At different times, you will have different needs and wants, which could include a new phone, video games, nice clothes, or a pair of shoes. You will not always be able to afford all your needs and some of your wants, thus, you will need to be responsible and save some of the monies that you earn or receive. One of my biological sons learnt this early; he always saved 50 per cent of his pocket money while he was in secondary school. Anytime his classmates spend all their pocket monies before the term ends, they would come to him to borrow. He would lend to them with the condition that if they fail to pay back on the agreed date, they must pay back the loan with an interest. For a 13-year-old boy at that time, I think this was a great show of financial intelligence.
If you are wise, you will not spend all the money that you receive as gifts from guests who visit your family or the allowances you receive from your parents for your upkeep. Rather, you would save at least 20 per cent of all the money after giving your tithe of 10 per cent to God (in your parish). Saving is key, as it will help you meet your needs in the future.

HYMN 8 – Lead Us Heavenly Father, Lead Us
1. Lead us, heavenly Father, lead us
O’er the world’s tempestuous sea;
Guard us, guide us, keep us, feed us,
For we have no help but Thee,
Yet possessing every blessing
If our God our Father be.
2. Saviour, breathe forgiveness o’er us;
All our weakness Thou dost know;
Thou didst tread this earth before us,
Thou didst feel its keenest woe;
Lone and dreary, faint and weary,
Through the desert Thou didst go.
3. Spirit of our God, descending,
Fill our hearts with heavenly joy,
Love with every passion blending,
Pleasure that can never cloy;
Thus provided, pardoned, guided,
Nothing can our peace destroy.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Exodus 38:1-40:38; Mark 1:1-28
