READ: Romans 7:15-25
- For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.
- If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.
- Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
- For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
- For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
- Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
- I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
- For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
- But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
- O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
- I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Kings 12-14, John 5:25-47
MESSAGE:
From the moment you ask Jesus Christ to become your Lord and personal Saviour, a battle begins within you. That battle is between the Spirit and the flesh. The flesh is not your skin, it is your desires, the things that will bring you comfort or the things that you enjoy doing. For instance, the flesh does not like to fast, it would prefer to eat three times in a day. When you fast, you empower the Spirit over the flesh. The flesh does not like to pray, it would prefer to sleep all through the night. The flesh does not like any spiritual exercise at all even though the spirit is willing to do them, hence, there is a constant battle. You need God at such times. In our Bible reading for today, Apostle Paul spoke of the constant battle that happened between his flesh and spirit.
If you are in this same condition today, make God your Ally. Ask Him to help you have dominion over the flesh. Have constant fellowship with the Heavenly Father so that the flesh can be subject to the Spirit of God in you.
KEY POINT:
You need God to win the battle between the flesh and the spirit.
HYMN 3: All To Jesus I Surrender
- All to Jesus I surrender,
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live
CHORUS
I surrender all, I surrender all;
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.
- All to Jesus I surrender,
Humbly at His feet I bow;
Worldly pleasures all forsaken,
Take me, Jesus, take me now. - All to Jesus I surrender,
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power,
Let Thy blessing fall on me. - All to Jesus I surrender,
Now I feel the sacred flame;
O the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory to His name!
