MEMORISE: Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance Matthew 3:8

READ: Luke 15:11-22

11 And he said, A certain man had two sons:

12 And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.

13 And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.

14 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.

15 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.

16 And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.

17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!

18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,

19 And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.

20 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

21 And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.

22 But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:

MESSAGE

When a person declares that they are born again, one would expect that their character, both in words and deeds would depict the life of Christ. If you are born again, can you sincerely say that old things have passed away in your life?

The proof of genuine repentance is shunning those things you promised God you wouldn’t do anymore when you surrendered your life to Christ. A clear example is seen in the words and actions of the prodigal son in today’s Bible reading. New converts often confess their sins to God and promise never to return to them again, but as soon as they leave the Church, they go back to living their lives like before. This is wrong.

If you have confessed Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, your repentance should be genuine. Therefore, make a conscious effort to truly desist from your past worldly lifestyle, Only then will you receive the grace from God to finish well.

PRAYER POINT

Father, help me to bear the fruits of repentance from today, in Jesus’ name

HYMN 3 – ALL TO JESUS I SURRENDER

  1. All to Jesus I surrender
    All to Him I freely give;
    I will ever love and trust Him,
    In His presence daily live.

CHORUS
I surrender all.
I surrender all:
All to Thee,
my blessed saviour
I surrender all

  1. All to Jesus I surrender,
    Humbly at His feet I bow;
    Worldly pleasures all forsaken.
    Take me, Jesus, take me now.
  2. All to Jesus I surrender.
    Lord, I give myself to Thee;
    Fill me with Thy love and power,
    Let Thy blessing fall on me.
  3. All to Jesus I surrender,
    Now I feel the sacred flame
    O the joy of full salvation!
    Glory, glory to His name!
