TOPIC: Love Is A Virtue [Open Heaven for Teens 17 July 2023]
MEMORISE: Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Matthew 22:39b
READ: Galatians 5:22-26
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Isaiah 9-11
MESSAGE
Love is the first fruit of the Spirit listed in our text for today. I believe it’s because love enables child of God to develop the other fruit of the Spirit. The fruit of the Spirit has its root in the Holy Spirit, this invariably means that anyone who doesn’t have the Holy Spirit may not find it easy to love others genuinely.

When we reflect on the different ways God expresses His love to us daily, we will be grateful and reciprocate His love by loving Him and the people around us. Christ, as our perfect example, has shown us that the presence of the Holy Spirit in the life of a child of God will make him/her express love even when he/she is not loved back. The Bible says that while we were yet sinners, Christ loved us and died for us (Romans 5:8). This means that love is unconditional; there is no condition attached to loving others. You may say that love is reciprocal, so you will only love those who love you and hate those who hate you; well, this is not the perfect kind of love endorsed by God.

PRAYER POINT:
Holy Spirit, please give me a heart of love in Jesus’ name.
HYMN 19: Jesus Loves Me! This I Know
- Jesus loves me! this I know,
For the Bible tells me so;
Little ones to Him belong;
They are weak, but He is strong.
CHORUS
Yes, Jesus loves me,
Yes, Jesus loves me,
Yes, Jesus loves me,
The Bible tells me so.
- Jesus loves me He who died,
Heaven’s gate to open wide,
He will wash away my sin,
Let His little child come in. - Jesus loves me, loves me still,
Tho’ I’m very weak and ill
From His shining throne on high
He will watch me where I lie. - Jesus loves me He will stay
Close beside me all the way,
If I love Him when I die
He will take me home on high.
