READ: 1 Samuel 17:41-50
- And the Philistine came on and drew near unto David; and the man that bare the shield went before him.
- And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.
- And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
- And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.
- Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
- This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcasses of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.
- And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD’s, and he will give you into our hands.
- And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came, and drew nigh to meet David, that David hastened, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.
- And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.
- So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Deuteronomy 29-30, Mark 16:1-20
MESSAGE:
David was the last born of Jesse whose daily job was to tend his fathers sheep. As young as he was, he took up the responsibility of always being in the sun and rain with the sheep. He once defended them from a lion and a bear. Do you really think David was small in the real sense of the word? Anyone who can match up to a lion is definitely not an ordinary fellow. Though he was considered small by his father and brothers, he didn’t see himself as that. No wonder he was so bold to confront Goliath.
It is how God sees you and how you see yourself that matters. There are some of my children who people overlook because of their small stature but when they pick up the microphone to preach or sing, the glory of God descends. God can use you to do mighty things in this generation. Stop thinking you are too small. Paul says in Philippians 4:13:
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me”
PRAYER POINT:
Lord, please help to do exploits for You in my generation.
HYMN 3: All To Jesus I Surrender
- All to Jesus I surrender,
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.
Chorus:
I surrender all,
I surrender all;
All to Thee, my blessed Saviour,
I surrender all.
- All to Jesus I surrender,
Humbly at His feet I bow;
Worldly pleasures all forsaken,
Take me, Jesus, take me now. - All to Jesus I surrender,
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power,
Let Thy blessing fall on me.
