TOPIC: A Good Fame [Open Heaven for Teens 18 January 2023]

MEMORISE: And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them. Matthew 4:24

READ: Joshua 6:27

27 So the LORD was with Joshua; and his fame was noised throughout all the country.

MESSAGE:

Fame is not a bad thing if it’s for good reasons. When Jesus was on earth, He was famous for doing good and all that He did gave glory to God. Unfortunately today, many young people want to be famous just to show friends and people that they have ‘arrived’. What a wrong reason!

As a child of God, you should be famous for good things such that unbelievers would want to be like you. This will bring glory to God and He will ensure that you remain globally relevant.

However, on your journey to fame, be mindful of your role models. Choose to pattern your life according to the word of God exemplified by them. Don’t follow them just to fit in or satisfy your craving for fame: rather, follow them because they act like Christ.

KEY POINT:

There’s nothing wrong with being famous so long as God is glorified.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Exodus 8-10

HYMN 15 – Onward, Christian Soldiers

  1. Onward, Christian soldiers!
    Marching as to war,
    Looking unto Jesus,
    Who is gone before;
    Christ, the Royal Master,
    Leads against the foe;
    Forward into battle,
    See His banners go.

CHORUS
Onward, Christian soldiers!
Marching as to war,
Looking unto Jesus,
Who is gone before.

  1. At the name of Jesus
    Satan’s host doth Ilee;
    On then, Christian soldiers
    On to victory!
    Hell’s foundations quiver
    At the shout of praise:
    Brothers, lift your voices,
    Loud your anthems raise.
  2. Like a mighty army
    Moves the Church of God:
    Brothers, we are treading
    Where the saints have trod.
    We are not divided,
    All one body we
    One in hope and doctrine,
    One in charity.
  3. Crowns and thrones may perish
    Kingdoms rise and wane;
    But the Church of Jesus
    Constant will remain:
    Gates of hell can never
    ‘Gainst that church prevail;
    We have Christ’s own promise-
    And that cannot fail.
  4. Onward then, ye people,
    Join our happy throng;
    Blend with ours your voices
    In the triumph song:
    “Glory, praise and honour,
    Unto Christ the King”,
    This, through countless ages,
    Men and angels sing.
