TOPIC: Lot’s Plea (Open Heaven for Teens 18 January 2025)

MEMORISE: Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live. – Genesis 19:20

READ: Genesis 19:18-20

  1. And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my Lord:
  2. Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die:
  3. Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.

MESSAGE:

When Lot got separated from his uncle, Abraham, he chose to reside in Sodom. The inhabitants of that land practised homosexuality, and God became furious with them. He vowed to destroy them, but after Abraham interceded, God decided to send angels to lead Lot out of Sodom before destroying the place.

Lot pleaded with the angels to allow him escape to the nearby town of Zoar instead of the mountains. God showed mercy to Lot by granting his request and sparing Zoar for his sake. As a result of this, he escaped God’s fearful judgement and the resulting destruction of Sodom.

Are you residing in a place where people have no regard for God and His commandments? Are certain activities which are done in your community or school against godly standards that conflict with your convictions? If your answer is yes, then you need to plead with God to have mercy on you so that you won’t partake of His judgement upon that community.

PRAYER POINT
Father, please preserve me and my family from Your judgement. Have mercy on us.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR
Genesis 37:1-38:30, Matthew 12:22-45

HYMN 22: Sweet Hour Of Prayer

1 Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
that calls me from a world of care,
and bids me at my Father’s throne
make all my wants and wishes known.
In seasons of distress and grief,
my soul has often found relief,
and oft escaped the tempter’s snare
by thy return, sweet hour of prayer!

2 Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
the joys I feel, the bliss I share
of those whose anxious spirits burn
with strong desires for thy return!
With such I hasten to the place
where God my Savior shows his face,
and gladly take my station there,
and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

3 Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
thy wings shall my petition bear
to him whose truth and faithfulness
engage the waiting soul to bless.
And since he bids me seek his face,
believe his word, and trust his grace,
I’ll cast on him my every care,
and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!
