TOPIC: King Nadab [Open Heaven for Teens 19 January 2024]
MEMORISE: The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: And the knowledge of the holy is understanding. Proverbs 9:10
READ: 1 Kings 15:25-28
25 And Nadab the son of Jeroboam began to reign over Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned over Israel two years.
26 And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of his father, and in his sin wherewith he made Israel to sin.
27 And Baasha the son of Ahijah, of the house of Issachar, conspired against him; and Baasha smote him at Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines; for Nadab and all Israel laid siege to Gibbethon.
28 Even in the third year of Asa king of Judah did Baasha slay him, and reigned in his stead.
MESSAGE
Nadab became king after the death of his father, Jeroboam. He walked in the way of his father and did evil. His story is a sorrowful one because he sowed evil, and his reign was cut short. He reigned for only two years before he was killed.
King Nadab had watched his father rule while seeking help from false gods, and he continued that wicked practice. He had a chance to abolish idolatry and lead the people of Israel to worship the only true God, but he failed to turn away from his father’s evil ways or tear down the shrines and high places. King Nadab failed because he tried to rule God’s people without God. Therefore, he was killed.
One important lesson to glean from the life of Nadab is that you have no excuse for following the wrong lifestyle of older generations. Therefore, even if your parents, guardians, elders, or leaders are not living a righteous lifestyle, you should because God will not judge you by their standards; rather, He will judge everyone by His righteous standards.
My dear child, don’t follow the wrong footsteps. Follow Christ and live right.
KEY POINT
Do not copy the sinful lifestyles of older generations.
HYMN 14 – Standing On The Promises Of God
1. Standing on the promises of Christ our King,
Thro’ eternal ages let His praises ring:
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.
Chorus
Standing, Standing,
Standing on the promises of
God my Saviour
Standing, Standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.
2 Standing on the promises that can-not fail,
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail
By the living word of Go I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God.
3. Standing on the promises I now can see
Perfect, present cleansing in the blood for me;
Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free,
Standing on the promises of God.
4. Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,
Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
Standing on the promises of God.
