MEMORISE: For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. James 2:26

READ: James 2:17-24
- Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
- Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
- Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
- But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
- Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
- Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
- And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
- Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Nehemiah 9-11, Acts 4:1-37
MESSAGE:
Faith according to Hebrews 11:1 is having the assurance of things not seen. It is believing that you have something even when you don’t. Apostle Paul in many scriptures spoke about faith; he however encouraged us to add work to our faith. For instance, a student is supposed to have faith that he or she would perform excellently academically, but still has to attend classes, do his or her assignments and projects, burn the midnight oil and answer the questions in the examination correctly. It would therefore be foolish of any student to spend time attending fellowships, praying and fasting without studying. Having faith that you will excel without studying according to our memory verse will result into failure (academic death).
Likewise, if you believe God for healing or good health and you still eat junk or practice poor hygiene, you will only be living in deceit. You must work in line with whatever you believe God for.
KEY POINT:
Faith, no work = poor results, work, no faith = struggle, faith + work = good results.
HYMN 3: ALL TO JESUS I SURRENDER
- All to Jesus I surrender,
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.
Chorus:
I surrender all, I surrender all;
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.
- All to Jesus I surrender,
Humbly at His feet I bow;
Worldly pleasures all forsaken,
Take me, Jesus, take me now. - All to Jesus I surrender,
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power,
Let Thy blessing fall on me. - All to Jesus I surrender,
Now I feel the sacred flame;
O the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory to His name!
