TOPIC: Worldly Trends [Open Heaven for Teens 19 November 2022]

MEMORISE: And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. – Romans 12:2

READ: Matthew 5:14-16

  1. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
  2. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
  3. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: James 1:1-27, Ezekiel 20-21

MESSAGE:

It amazes me when Christians try to copy world trends. Christians want to dress like the people of the world, talk and behave like them, when the Bible says though we are in the world, we are not of the world. For instance, some time ago, I heard that there was something called ‘the silhouette challenge’, where young girls danced naked and recorded it while the light is off. It was sad to see some Christians jumping right into it. It is obvious that many people are in the Church though not necessarily followers of Christ. You cannot be a follower of Christ and follow worldly trends. Can a servant serve two masters? No.

I know that as a teenager, there is constant pressure to do things that would make you accepted by people. The question is: who are you called to please – people or God? The irony of the whole matter is that the people you seek to please by following their trends know the truth; they know that what they are doing is wrong but feel good when they see you copy them and then hail you so that you don’t stop. Be wise my child; rather than follow their trends, be creative, form your own trend, let your friends follow and spread it round to others, too. Let others see Christ in you and through you.

ACTION POINT:

Create godly trends for the world to follow.

HYMN: Let Others See Jesus In You

  1. While passing through this world of sin,
    And others your life shall view,
    Be clean and pure without, within,
    Let others see Jesus in you.

CHORUS
Let others see Jesus in you,
Let others see Jesus in you;
Keep telling the story, be faithful and true,
Let others see Jesus in you.

  1. Your life’s a book before their eyes,
    They’re reading it through and through;
    Say, does it point them to the skies,
    Do others see Jesus in you?
  2. What joy ’twill be at set of sun,
    In mansions beyond the blue,
    To find some souls that you have won;
    Let others see Jesus in you.
  3. Then live for Christ both day and night,
    Be faithful, be brave, and true,
    And lead the lost to life and light;
    Let others see Jesus in you.
