Memorise: Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. Isaiah 60:1
Read: Isaiah 60:1-3
1 Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.
2 See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you.
3 Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.
Bible In One Year: Exodus 28-30; Matthew 22:1-22
MESSAGE:
In today’s Bible text, there are two separate commands. The first is arise’. This first instruction could mean different things to different individuals depending on their situation. For example, to someone crawling academically (scoring below average). it means to get high marks. To someone walking, it means to fly (perform excellently). To someone sleeping spiritually, arise means be awake. To anyone stagnant in any area of life, it means move. If there is any area in which you have been lagging behind, you will arise today in the name that is above every other.

The second command says ‘shine. Matthew 5:14 says you are the light of the world. It is therefore expected of you to shine. Academically, you should shine by being the best in your class. Morally and spiritually, you should shine such that no darkness (bad character or habit) can stay around you. Wherever you are, you are to make a great impact on those around you.
Prayer Point:
Father, I arise and shine today and forever
Hymn 12: I’m Pressing On The Upward Way
- I’m pressing on the upward way,
New heights I’m gaining everyday;
Still praying as I onward bound
“Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.”
Chorus:
Lord, lift me up and let me stand,
By faith, on Heaven’s table-land;
Where love, and joy, and light abound,
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.
- My heart has no desire to stay
Where doubts arise, and fears dismay;
Though some may dwell where these abound,
My constant aim is higher ground. - Beyond the mist I fain would rise,
To rest beneath unclouded skies,
Above earth’s turmoil peace is found
By those who dwell on higher ground. - I long to scale the utmost height,
Though rough the way, and hard the fight,
My song while climbing, shall resound
Lord, lead me on to higher ground. - Lord, lead me up the mountain side
I dare not climb without my Guide;
And, heaven gained, I’ll gaze around,
With grateful heart from higher ground.
