BIBLE READING: 1 Samuel 30:1-8
1 And it came to pass, when David and his men were come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the south, and Ziklag, and smitten Ziklag, and burned it with fire;
2 And had taken the women captives, that were therein: they slew not any, either great or small, but carried them away, and went on their way.
3 So David and his men came to the city, and, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken captives.
4 Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep.
5 And David’s two wives were taken captives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.
6 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.
7 And David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech’s son, I pray thee, bring me hither the ephod. And Abiathar brought thither the ephod to David.
8 And David enquired at the Lord, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.
MESSAGE:
Today’s Bible reading talks about David, who cried so hard after his enemies took away his family and possessions.
David’s helpless situation turned around when he asked God for a strategy. God told him to move ahead and assured him that he would overtake his enemies and recover all they had taken if he pursued them. If David had gone after his enemies based on his instincts alone, he might not have recovered anything.
There are many people today who have a one-size-fits-all approach to every situation, They always stick with their plans, and they don’t try to seek new ways to achieve their goals. For instance, if the plans you made at the beginning of last year failed, you should re-examine the plans and make adjustments rather than throw away your goals altogether. You should understand the reasons your plans fails and re-plan, but don’t forget to ask God for a strategy.
My dear child, it is wise to own a journal &or a vision board, as this will help you to document your progress as you move towards achieving your goals. There are many ways to achieve a goal, however you need the right strategy.
KEY POINT
Don’t just make plans to achieve goals, ask God for a strategy.
HYMN 8: Lead Us Heavenly Father, Lead Us
- Lead us, heavenly Father, lead us
O’er the world’s tempestuous sea;
Guard us, guide us, keep us, feed us,
For we have no help but Thee,
Yet possessing every blessing
If our God our Father be. - Saviour, breathe forgiveness o’er us;
All our weakness Thou dost know;
Thou didst tread this earth before us,
Thou didst feel its keenest woe;
Lone and dreary, faint and weary,
Through the desert Thou didst go. - Spirit of our God, descending,
Fill our hearts with heavenly joy,
Love with every passion blending,
Pleasure that can never cloy;
Thus provided, pardoned, guided,
Nothing can our peace destroy.
