TOPIC: The Man Called Joshua (Open Heaven for Teens 20 January 2025)
MEMORISE: And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour. Joshua 6:2
READ: Psalm 3:5-6
5. Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
MESSAGE:
Joshua, a faithful leader chosen by God, faced daunting challenges as he led the Israelites into the Promised Land. Throughout his life, Joshua demonstrated unwavering trust in God’s promises and guidance. He was a man of prayer who loved to spend time with God in the temple (Exodus 33:11). As a result, God guided him in all his ways. Before the battle of Jericho, God gave him an unusual strategy – God told him to command the people to march around the walls of Jericho for seven days and shout with a loud voice on the seventh day.

Although the instruction sounded ‘unmilitary’, the people obeyed, and the walls of Jericho fell like a pack of cards. I once prayed for the move of God to be evident in one of our programmes, and God told me to soak one of my garments in a basin of oil and ask the pastors to anoint everyone believing God for a miracle with the oil. This sounded odd, but we obeyed and we had many testimonies, to the glory of God.
As a teenager, you have to start learning to rely on God’s wisdom and power to overcome obstacles. To do this, you must obey His instructions, even if they seem stupid.
KEY POINT
You will experience wonders if you obey God’s instructions.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR
Genesis 41:17-42:17, Matthew 13:24-46
HYMN 22: Sweet Hour Of Prayer
1. Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
that calls me from a world of care,
and bids me at my Father’s throne
make all my wants and wishes known.
In seasons of distress and grief,
my soul has often found relief,
and oft escaped the tempter’s snare
by thy return, sweet hour of prayer!
2. Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
the joys I feel, the bliss I share
of those whose anxious spirits burn
with strong desires for thy return!
With such I hasten to the place
where God my Savior shows his face,
and gladly take my station there,
and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!
3. Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
thy wings shall my petition bear
to him whose truth and faithfulness
engage the waiting soul to bless.
And since he bids me seek his face,
believe his word, and trust his grace,
I’ll cast on him my every care,
and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!
