TOPIC: Don’t Be Idle [Open Heaven for Teens 22 March 2021]

MEMORISE: Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: Proverbs 6:10

READ: Proverbs 26:13-16

  1. The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.
  2. As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.
  3. The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.
  4. The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Joshua 7-8, Luke 2:25-52

MESSAGE:

Idleness is a state of being lazy or inactive and God dislikes it. There is a common saying that an idle hand is the devils workshop. In life, no vacuum is permitted, so, if you’re not busy doing something reasonable, the devil will give you an assignment to carry out. Idleness opens the door for the devil to bring sinful suggestions to your heart to make you stray.

Idle people are tagged busybodies who take delight in poking their noses in other peoples businesses. They are not willing to do anything that is productive. As a son and daughter of God, rather than stay idle when you are on holiday, learn a new a skill and practice it. There are several other activities you can do when you are less busy with school activities; read good books, cook a new dish, develop a new app, join a godly social club anchored on good will, volunteer in programmes, attend good seminars and conferences. Don’t become a tool in the hand of the devil, don’t be idle.

KEY POINT:
Whatever good your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.

HYMN 3: ALL TO JESUS I SURRENDER

  1. All to Jesus I surrender,
    All to Him I freely give;
    I will ever love and trust Him,
    In His presence daily live.

Chorus:
I surrender all,
I surrender all;
All to Thee, my blessed Saviour,
I surrender all.

  1. All to Jesus I surrender,
    Humbly at His feet I bow;
    Worldly pleasures all forsaken,
    Take me, Jesus, take me now.
  2. All to Jesus I surrender,
    Lord, I give myself to Thee;
    Fill me with Thy love and power,
    Let Thy blessing fall on me.
  3. All to Jesus I surrender,
    Now I feel the sacred flame;
    O the joy of full salvation!
    Glory, glory to His name!
