READ: Proverbs 2:16-22

16 To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;
17 Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.
18 For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.
19 None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.
20 That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.
21 For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.
22 But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.

MESSAGE

There is this story of a friend of mine who was a successful lawyer and also owned a bakery. He was wealthy but did not believe in giving tithes. One day, I called him and advised him to give his tithe, but he refused and went on with his business as usual. As you know, a lawyer’s pride is in his victories in court, but unfortunately, he lost three cases in quick succession. As though that was not bad enough, all his workers at the bakery left without notice in less than a month. Then, he ran to me lamenting. I told him, “You did not believe in tithing.” From that moment, he started giving his tithes, and things became even better for him.

If you fail to take godly advice, you cannot escape from the fowler’s snare. One of the baits the enemy uses to ensnare children of God is to encourage them to shun the godly counsel of parents, leaders and even friends. Don’t be like Samson: it took the loss of his sight and strength to remember that he had been warned by his parents and he refused their counsel.
