TOPIC: King Zachariah [Open Heaven for Teens 23 February 2024]

MEMORISE: Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. Isaiah 60:1

BIBLE TEXT: 2 Kings 15:8-12

8 In the thirty and eighth year of Azariah king of Judah did Zachariah the son of Jeroboam reign over Israel in Samaria six months.

9 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, as his fathers had done: he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.

10 And Shallum the son of Jabesh conspired against him, and smote him before the people, and slew him, and reigned in his stead.

11 And the rest of the acts of Zachariah, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.

12 This was the word of the Lord which he spake unto Jehu, saying, Thy sons shall sit on the throne of Israel unto the fourth generation. And so it came to pass.

MESSAGE:

When God’s people first asked for an earthly king, rejecting Him as their King, God warned them that earthly kings would bring them trouble (1 Samuel 8:10-18). This was indeed the case as King Zachariah and his predecessors treated the children of Israel badly. Zachariah only reigned for six months before he was killed in the presence of the people (2 Kings 15:10).

It is obvious that Zachariah was a ur wicked king because even though he was killed before the people, his murderer was enthroned instead of the being arrested, showing that his death was celebrated among the people. If you don’t stand up for what is right, you will be displaced in the race of life. Many Christians are losing their place in their schools, families, churches, et cetera because they are not shining as light. I implore me it you to shine as light wherever you find yourself so that darkness will not overcome you and allow others to take your place.

PRAYER POINT

Father, please help me to shine as light. Let my fire not be quenched.

HYMN 16: BREATHE ON ME

1. Breathe on me, Breath of God; Fill me with life anew, That I may love what Thou dost love, And do what Thou wouldst do.

2. Breathe on me, Breath of God; Until my heart is pure, Until with Thee I will one will, To do and to endure.

3. Breathe on me, Breath of God; Till I am wholly Thine, Until this earthly part of me Glows with Thy fire divine.

4. Breathe on me, Breath of God; So shall I never die, But live with Thee the perfect life Of Thine eternity.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Leviticus 14:1-57 Mark 6:30-56
