TOPIC — The Parable Of The Sower: The Wayside [Open Heaven for Teens 24 August 2022]

MEMORISE: Seeing many things, but thou observest not; opening the ears, but he heareth not. Isaiah 42:20

READ: Matthew 13:1-4, 19

  1. The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side.
  2. And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.
  3. And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;
  4. And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:

Matthew 13:19

19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Corinthians 6:1-20, Psalms 120-123

MESSAGE:

In the next few days, we will consider the Parable of the Sower, as taught by Jesus who spoke more in parables to His disciples and followers. In this particular parable, the sower is anyone who broadcasts the word of God, such as a Pastor, Evangelist, Teacher et cetera. The seed is the word of God and the type of soil in which the seed is sown shows the nature or position of the heart of the one hearing the word of God.

The wayside therefore represents those who hear the word but lack understanding of it. For such, the word of God can never transform them because they couldn’t even understand, much less internalise it. Also, people in this category are Christians who go to Church on special occasions such as Christmas, Easter, New Year’s Eve et cetera. They do not read the Bible; Church services and sermons are boring to them, so it is easy for the devil to steal the words from their hearts.

KEY POINT:

Consider the position of your ears and heart towards the word of God today.

HYMN: Pass Me Not A Gentle Saviour

  1. Pass me not, O gentle Saviour,
    Hear my humble cry,
    While on others Thou art calling,
    Do not pass me by.

CHORUS
Saviour, Saviour,
Hear my humble cry;
While on others Thou art calling,
Do not pass me by.

  1. Let me at Thy throne of mercy
    Find a sweet relief;
    Kneeling there in deep contrition,
    Help my unbelief.
  2. Trusting only in Thy merit,
    Would I seek Thy face;
    Heal my wounded, broken spirit,
    Save me by Thy grace.
  3. Thou the Spring of all my comfort,
    More than life to me,
    Whom have I on earth beside Thee?
    Whom in heaven but Thee?
