TOPIC: Care About Politics II [Open Heaven for Teens 25 January 2023]

MEMORISE: Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Romans 13:1

READ: Genesis 41:39-44

39 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:

40 Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.

41 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.

42 And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph’s hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;

43 And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.

44 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without thee shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Exodus 31-34

MESSAGE:

Contrary to the belief that ministry is what pastors and ministers of God do from the pulpit, I want to emphasize that politics is a ministry to a genuine child of God who engages in it for the sole purpose of doing the will of God through governance. A good reason Christians should care about politics is that there are many Bible characters who engaged in it as part of a holistic approach to ministry that meets both spiritual and physical needs.

Joseph, at age 30, became the Prime Minister of Egypt and made sure there was constant food supply during the seven years of famine (Genesis 41). By divine wisdom, he coordinated the storage of surplus grains in the years of plenty ahead of the drought.

Likewise, Queen Esther used her influence in the Persian government to save the Jewish people from mass death (Esther 8). Also, Daniel was a special adviser to about 4 kings during his time. You can shine for God in politics if you abide and trust in Him to guide you in all your endeavours.

Start by taking up responsibilities in your school and do it well.

KEY POINT

Take up leadership positions and perform excellently.

HYMN 8 – Forth In Your Name, O Lord, I Go,

  1. Forth in your name, O Lord, I go,
    My daily labor to pursue,
    You only, Lord, resolved to know
    In all I think or speak or do.
  2. The task your wisdom has assigned
    Here let me cheerfully fulfill;
    In all my work your presence find,
    And prove your good and perfect will.
  3. You may I set at my right hand,
    Whose eyes my inmost secrets view,
    And labor on at your command
    And offer all my work to you.
  4. Help me to bear your easy yoke
    In ev’ry moment watch and pray,
    And still to things eternal look
    And hasten to that glorious day.
  5. Then with delight may I employ
    All that your bounteous grace has given,
    And run my earthly course with joy,
    And closely walk with you in heaven.
