TOPIC: Life-Giving Meal [Open Heaven for Teens 25 May 2022]

MEMORISE: Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. John 6:54

READ: Mark 14:22-24

  1. And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body.
  2. And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it.
  3. And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: John 9:24-41, 1 Chronicles 14-16

MESSAGE:

An invitation to Holy Communion is a call to partake in the life of the Life-giver. Jesus body was broken for us and when you eat of it you’re eating of the Body of Jesus which is meat indeed (John 6:55 ). This meal has both preventive and curative powers such that it can prevent any poison from harming you and it can also heal a sick person.

The Holy Communion is also called the Lords Supper; it symbolically put an end to the era of Jesus physical presence on earth and marked the beginning of a new one of mans restoration to eternal life. Thus, the next time you’re privileged to partake of it, eat it with great expectation that the life of Christ has been transferred to you and death can never be your portion. This is because death has been swallowed up in victory.

There is a flip side to this life-giving delicacy in the sense that it is also powerful enough to cause the death of those who eat it unworthily, that is, those who are still committing sin. When a sinner partakes of it, rather than immunize the fellow against sicknesses and death, it breaks down his/her immune system, thereby exposing the fellow to all manner of things. Be guided and never eat it unworthily.

KEY POINT

Never partake of the Holy Communion unworthily.

HYMN: NEARER, MY GOD

  1. Nearer, my God, to Thee,
    nearer to thee!
    E’en though it be a cross
    that raiseth me,
    still all my song shall be,
    nearer, my God,
  2. Though like the wanderer,
    the sun gone down,
    darkness be over me,
    my rest a stone;
    yet in my dreams I’d be
    nearer, my God, to Thee; (2ce)
    nearer to Thee!
  3. There let the way appear,
    steps unto heaven;
    all that Thou sendest me,
    in mercy given;
    angels to beckon me
    nearer, my God, to Thee; (2ce)
    nearer to Thee!
  4. Then with my waking thoughts
    bright with Thy praise,
    out of my stony griefs
    Bethel I’ll raise;
    so by my woes to be
    nearer, my God, to Thee; (2ce)
    nearer to Thee!
  5. Or if, on joyful wing
    cleaving the sky,
    sun, moon, and stars forgot,
    upward I fly,
    still all my song shall be,
    nearer, my God, to Thee; (2ce)
    nearer to Thee!
