TOPIC: Freedom From Depression I [Open Heaven for Teens 26 November 2022]

MEMORISE: Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. Hebrews 1:9

READ: 1 Peter 1:5-9

  1. Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
  2. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:
  3. That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
  4. Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
  5. Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Peter 3:1-22, Ezekiel 36-37

MESSAGE:

The rate at which people, particularly young ones, go into depression is alarming. More alarming is that it sometimes leads the victim into committing suicide. Let me tell you my child, suicide does not bring a solution to any problem, instead, whoever commits suicide will land in hell where there is no repentance or second chance for all eternity. Also, binging on food or snacks will not bring any solution, instead, the fellow would become obese. You also need to know that alcohol cannot solve any problem, instead, the fellow would make some decisions that would have negative consequences. When the influence of alcohol wears out, the fellow would be in a bigger mess.

There is, however, a sure antidote for depression which is the joy of the Holy
Spirit. This joy flows from within and it is not subject to the circumstances that surround one. To get this joy, you need to accept Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour, then ask the Holy Spirit to take control of your heart and emotions, tell Him all your worries without holding back anything. In no time, He will fill your heart with joy.

Also, when God helps, He shows Himself in such a manner that people would say is a miracle. The people did not only win the battle they didn’t fight, they also had spoil in abundance (2 Chronicles 20:25 ). May God showcase Himself through your life in the mighty name of Jesus. Lastly, when you receive divine help, never forget to thank God like Jehoshaphat and the people did in verse 28. They went to the house of Lord with musical instruments.

KEY POINT

The surest antidote for depression is the joy of the Holy Spirit.

HYMN: What A Friend We Have In Jesus

  1. What a friend we have in Jesus,
    All our sins and griefs to bear;
    What a privilege to carry
    Ev’rything to God in prayer
Oh! what peace we often forfeit,
Oh! what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
    Everything to God in prayer.
  2. Have we trials and temptations?
    Is there trouble anywhere?
    We should never be discouraged,
Take it to the Lord in prayer
Can we find a Friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrow share?
    Jesus knows our every weakness,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
  3. Are we weak and heavy laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
    Precious Saviour still our refuge,
Take it to the Lord in prayer
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.
