READ: Genesis 39:10-14

10 And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her.

11 And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within.

12 And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.

13 And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled forth,

14 That she called unto the men of her house, and spake unto them, saying, See, he hath brought in an Hebrew unto us to mock us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice:

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Isaiah 44-46

MESSAGE

There are many false accusers in the world today that would go to any length to put their victims or a less vocal person in trouble. Joseph was accused by a superior to have committed a crime that he clearly ran away from, but who would have believed otherwise? It was his master’s wife’s word against his. However, after several years of punishment, God arranged a situation that eventually took Joseph to the throne.

One of the salient points from the Bible text is that false accusers will get a shameful reward when God finally vindicates the fellow they accused wrongly. I can imagine that Potiphar’s wife was one of those who bowed to Joseph after his appointment as the new Prime Minister of Egypt.

Another point is that when God vindicates you, you need no retaliation. Rather than plan a revenge strategy, Joseph focused on the new assignment given to him by Pharaoh, which directly involved him feeding his former boss and his wife throughout the period of famine.

ACTION POINT:

Ask the Holy Spirit to make it easy for you to forgive anyone who has caused you pain as a result of a false accusation.

HYMN 7 – Just As I Am, Without One Plea

  1. Just as I am, without one plea,
But that Thy blood was shed for me
And that Thou bidst me come to Thee,
Oh Lamb of God I come, I come.
  2. Just as I am, and waiting not
To rid my soul of one dark blot
To Thee, whose blood can cleanse each spot
Oh Lamb of God I come, I come.
  3. Just as I am though tossed about,
With many a conflict, many a doubt,
    Fighting’s and fears within, without,
Oh Lamb of God I come, I come.
  4. Just as I am poor, wretched, blind,
Sight, riches, healing of the mind
Yea, all I need, in Thee to find
Oh Lamb of God I come, I come.
