TOPIC: Obedience Pays [Open Heaven for Teens 27 October 2023]

MEMORISE: And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. 1 Samuel 15:22

BIBLE TEXT: 1 Samuel 15:22-23

22 And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

MESSAGE:

Obedience is an act of doing and being willing to do what one is told, It is total submission to the written and spoken word of God. True and perfect obedience comes from a heart of love. It is real and not mere eye service. The Bible is full of stories of men and women who became great as a result of their complete and immediate obedience to the word of God.

One of the blessings of obedience is boldness. This is evident in the life of the disciples, especially after receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit. They boldly confronted the Jewish elders when they were asked not to preach, saying that they would rather please God and displease men.

King Saul lost his throne because he chose to please human beings rather than honour God with complete obedience. I believe you don’t want to lose your eternal throne, therefore, be obedient to God. Are you facing persecution because of your obedience to Christ? Don’t give up! Don’t compromise your stance because you will be rewarded here on earth and in Heaven.

KEY POINT:

Obedience is better than sacrifice.
