TOPIC: Obey Don’ts’! [Open Heaven for Teens 27 September 2022]

READ: Psalms 3:1-7

  1. Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me.
  2. Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah.
  3. But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
  4. I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.
  5. I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.
  6. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.
  7. Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Galatians 5:1-26 , Isaiah 10-12

MESSAGE:

I have discovered that one of the words teenagers hate to hear is don’t. You hate to be told “don’t do this, don’t do that”. You’d rather do things your way. Some teens would even say they prefer to make their mistakes and learn from them. Believe me honestly, it is better to learn from the mistakes of others, otherwise, the events narrated in the Bible would be useless, because they are given for instruction and direction so that we do not make the same mistakes that the characters in the Bible made.

As a teen, you also need to understand that you are told don’t for your own good because if you have the liberty to do whatever you wish without proper guidance, you would end up making wrong decisions that would ruin your present and future. The story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden is a perfect example. If they had adhered to the instruction given to them by God, maybe there would have been no suffering, pain, war, hatred, killings and all sorts of evil present in the world today.

KEY POINT:

Obey instructions because they are for your own good.

HYMN: Stand Up, Stand Up For Jesus

  1. Stand up! stand up for Jesus
    Ye soldiers of the cross!
    Lift high His royal banner;
    It must not suffer loss.
    From vict’ry unto vict’ry
    His army shall He lead,
    Till every foe is vanquished,
    And Christ is Lord indeed.
  2. Stand up! stand up for Jesus,
    the trumpet call obey;
    Forth to the mighty conflict,
    In this His glorious day;
    Ye that are men now serve Him
    against unnumbered foes;
    let courage rise with danger,
    and strength to strength oppose.
  3. Stand up! stand up for Jesus,
    stand in his strength alone;
    The arm of flesh will fail you,
    Ye dare not trust your own:
    put on the gospel armour,
    And watching unto prayer;
    where duty calls, or danger,
    be never wanting there.
  4. Stand up! stand up for Jesus,
    The strife will not be long;
    this day the noise of battle,
    the next the victor’s song:
    to him that overcometh
    A crown of life shall be;
    He with the King of glory
    shall reign eternally.
