TOPIC: No Discouragement [Open Heaven for Teens 28 August 2023]

MEMORISE: And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God. 1 Samuel 30:6

READ: 1 Kings 19:3-8

3 And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.

4 But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.

5 And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.

6 And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.

7 And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.

8 And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.

MESSAGE

After Elijah had outstanding victories, as shown in today’s text, he fled for his life and requested of God to die. He preferred God to kill him because he didn’t want to die in the hands of his enemy, Jezebel. Rather than God answering his prayer, He sent him food, thereby, turning his hopelessness into hope.

One major lesson from the above scenario is that disappointment can cause depression which can make someone pray amiss. I pray that any negative prayer you prayed in your time of distress is hereby canceled in the name of Jesus.

Dear child, be careful about your words, wishes, comments or prayers when in distress so that the enemy will not have a foothold against your life. Instead of being discouraged, get up like David and encourage yourself in the Lord by singing, dancing, praying and claiming God’s promises for your life in His words.

ACTION POINT:

Discouragement is an indication that something great lies ahead of you, shake it off and move on.

HYMN 16 – BREATHE ON ME

  1. Breathe on me, Breath of God,
    Fill me with life anew,
That I may love the way you love,
And do what you would do.
  2. Breathe on me, Breath of God,
    Until my heart is pure,
Until my will is one with yours,
    To do and to endure.
  3. Breathe on me, Breath of God,
    So shall I never die,
But live with you the perfect life
    For all eternity.
