READ: John 8:44

44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Job 13-15, Acts 8:26-40

MESSAGE:

Today, we will consider a sin that people don’t see as a big deal; lying. From our memory verse, lying is the second sin mentioned. This shows the extent to which God hates lies. Why do people lie? People tell lies to escape punishment. Many youths lie when they do wrong because they feel that they will not get punished. Well, yes, you might escape the punishment of man, but can you escape that of God? Another reason people tell lies is the fear of man. Matthew 10:28 says:

“And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”

Are you supposed to fear man or God? Some others lie because they want to impress. These people are the kind who boast. When you talk too much, you are likely to tell lies. So, whichever category you fall into, you can stop telling lies. Fear God, talk less and let the Holy Spirit guide you. Always remember that God can never lie.

KEY POINT:

Copy your Daddy.

HYMN 7: CHRISTIAN SEEK NOT YET REPOSE

  1. Christian, seek not yet repose,
    Hear thy guardian angel say,
    “Thou art in the midst of foes:
    Watch and pray!
  2. Principalities and powers,
    Mustering their unseen array,
    Wait for thine unguarded hours:
    “Watch and pray!
  3. Gird thy heavenly armour on,
    Wear it every night and day,
    Ambushed lies the evil one:
    “Watch and pray!
  4. Hear the victors who overcame;
    Still they mark each warrior’s way,
    All with one sweet voice exclaim,
    “Watch and pray!
  5. Hear, above all, hear thy Lord,
    Him thou lovest to obey;
    Hide within thy heart His word,
    “Watch and pray!
  6. Watch, as if on that alone
    Hung the issue of the day;
    Pray, that help may be sent down:
    “Watch and pray!”
