TOPIC: Leaving Jesus Behind? [Open Heaven for Teens 28 March 2021]

MEMORISE: Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown. – Revelation 3:11

READ: Luke 2:41-52

  1. Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover.
  2. And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.
  3. And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.
  4. But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day’s journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.
  5. And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.
  6. And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.
  7. And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.
  8. And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.
  9. And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?
  10. And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.
  11. And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
  12. And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Joshua 21-22; Luke 6:1-49

MESSAGE:

At the age of twelve, Jesus accompanied His parents and their relatives to Jerusalem for the feast of the Passover. On the day of their return, Jesus remained in the temple, but His parents didn’t realize He wasn’t with them until the third day. How sad! This is the height of distraction. Perhaps, Mary and Joseph were gisting about how powerful that year’s feast was and their relatives were commenting on the guest ministers mannerisms during the sermon. They talked and laughed so much that Jesus absence was unnoticed until the third day.

My dear child, do you attend church services or prayer meetings only to get back home and gist about the event with your family or close friends? You may have left Jesus. Are you so fond of taking note of the grammatical errors of men of God that you miss out on the message God wants to get across to you through His vessel? Do you attend religious services because you were told to do so or its a recurrent event and not because of the desire for a divine encounter with God? Now, is the time to check your heart and repent. Retrace your steps today so that you can enjoy a beautiful fellowship with God once again.

PRAYER POINT:
Lord, please take my hand in Yours and never leave me as I journey to eternal life.

HYMN 17: There Shall Be Showers Of Blessing

  1. There shall be showers of blessing
    This is the promise of love;
    There shall be season refreshing
    Sent from the Savior above

Chorus:
Showers of blessing,
Showers of blessing we need;
Mercy drop ’round are falling,
But for the showers we plead.

  1. There shall be showers of blessing
    Precious reviving again;
    Over the hills and the valleys,
    Sound of abundance of rain.
  2. There shall be showers of blessing
    Send them upon us O Lord
    Grant to us a refreshing;
    Come now and honor Thy Word.
  3. There shall be showers of blessing
    Oh that today thy might fall,
    Now as to God we are confessing,
    Now as on Jesus we call.
