READ: Galatians 5:22-26
- But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
- Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
- And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
- If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
- Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalms 56-58, Acts 28:1-31
MESSAGE:
The moment a fellow surrenders his or her life to Jesus, he becomes liberated from sin. Not only that, he becomes a new fellow (2 Corinthians 5:17 ). However, the change is not automatic because what became new at the point of salvation is the soul; the body and the spirit remain. So, it is necessary to bear new fruits because new fruits show that an individual is indeed born again and has left his old ways. For instance, when a thief gives his life to Christ, he is expected to stop stealing which is now the new fruit.
Galatians 5:22-23 a clearly lists the new fruits also known as the fruit of the Spirit expected of any Christian:
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance:”
Therefore, any one who exhibits a different fruit apart from those listed above is not yet born again. Also, note that the Bible passage says fruit and not fruits; this means a believer has to have it all. However, to bear this new fruit, one needs the Holy Spirit. This is because no one can by himself live a godly. So, the more a Christian yields to the Holy Spirit, the more he bears new fruit (change in character).
KEY POINT:
To bear the fruit of the Spirit, yield completely to the Holy Spirit.
HYMN: ALL TO JESUS I SURRENDER
- All to Jesus I surrender,
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.
CHORUS
I surrender all, I surrender all;
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.
- All to Jesus I surrender,
Humbly at His feet I bow;
Worldly pleasures all forsaken,
Take me, Jesus, take me now. - All to Jesus I surrender,
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power,
Let Thy blessing fall on me. - All to Jesus I surrender,
Now I feel the sacred flame;
O the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory to His name!
