BIBLE TEXT: Proverbs 24:30-34

30 I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;

31 And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.

32 Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.

33 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

34 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.

MESSAGE:

Laziness is slacking in one’s duties or responsibilities. When I see children who are lazy, I wonder whose children they are because our God is not lazy. Imagine the number of persons who call on Him daily and how He attends their needs. Also, consider how He treated the universe within six days. That’s not a lazy job.

I don’t condone laziness in my house, and the same goes with my wife. There was a time one of my sons wanted a new shoe for the first convention at the Redemption City and he approached my wife. She asked him to go to the arena, which was under construction, so that he could earn daily pay. The young man took it as a challenge and went to work, he got paid and got his pair of shoes when he had saved enough money. Today, he is a thriving entrepreneur to the glory of God.

Laziness is a worm that would eat into every aspect of your life: your academics, walk with God, chores, et cetera. It should therefore be nipped in the bud. Do what you ought to do at the right time, and don’t just sit at home watching movies or catching up with gist on social media. This is the time to work because hard work pays. Whoever is lazy will reap poverty.

KEY POINT

The difference between the lazy and hardworking will be their results in a few years’ time. Get to work!

HYMN 8 – Forth In Your Name, O Lord, I Go,

  1. Forth in your name, O Lord, I go,
    My daily labor to pursue,
    You only, Lord, resolved to know
    In all I think or speak or do.
  2. The task your wisdom has assigned
    Here let me cheerfully fulfill;
    In all my work your presence find,
    And prove your good and perfect will.
  3. You may I set at my right hand,
    Whose eyes my inmost secrets view,
    And labor on at your command
    And offer all my work to you.
  4. Help me to bear your easy yoke
    In ev’ry moment watch and pray,
    And still to things eternal look
    And hasten to that glorious day.
  5. Then with delight may I employ
    All that your bounteous grace has given,
    And run my earthly course with joy,
    And closely walk with you in heaven.
