TOPIC: The Fourth Man In The Furnace [Open Heaven for Teens 3 May 2023]
MEMORISE: When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. Isaiah 43:2
READ: Daniel 3:20-25
20 And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace.
21 Then these men were bound in their coats, their hosen, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
22 Therefore because the king’s commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flames of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
23 And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
24 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.
25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.
MESSAGE
The memory verse today reminds us of God’s promise to be with His children whenever they pass through the storms, fires, and rivers of life. This promise was fulfilled in the lives of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego when they were thrown into the burning furnace as Jesus showed up as the fourth man in the midst of the furnace. The three Hebrew boys believed that the God who helped the Israelites walk through the waters would also deliver them according to His promise. Thus, I want you to understand that the words proclaimed by God in the memory verse of today and other verses in the Bible are not empty promises.
Beloved, Jesus can be the fourth man who will deliver you from the ordeals of life if only you choose not to defile yourself with the king’s meat: that is, you do not get carried away with the things of this world. He saved me; He can save you too.
KEY POINT:
Jesus always shows up when you need Him
HYMN 15 – Onward, Christian Soldiers
- Onward, Christian soldiers!
Marching as to war,
Looking unto Jesus,
Who is gone before;
Christ, the Royal Master,
Leads against the foe;
Forward into battle,
See His banners go.
CHORUS
Onward, Christian soldiers!
Marching as to war,
Looking unto Jesus,
Who is gone before.
- At the name of Jesus
Satan’s host doth Ilee;
On then, Christian soldiers
On to victory!
Hell’s foundations quiver
At the shout of praise:
Brothers, lift your voices,
Loud your anthems raise. - Like a mighty army
Moves the Church of God:
Brothers, we are treading
Where the saints have trod.
We are not divided,
All one body we
One in hope and doctrine,
One in charity. - Crowns and thrones may perish
Kingdoms rise and wane;
But the Church of Jesus
Constant will remain:
Gates of hell can never
‘Gainst that church prevail;
We have Christ’s own promise-
And that cannot fail. - Onward then, ye people,
Join our happy throng;
Blend with ours your voices
In the triumph song:
“Glory, praise and honour,
Unto Christ the King”,
This, through countless ages,
Men and angels sing.
