MEMORISE: But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. James 1:22

READ: Ecclesiastes 5:4-6

  1. When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed.
  2. Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.
  3. Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it was an error: wherefore should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thine hands?

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Philemon 1:1-25, Jeremiah 36-37

MESSAGE:

God is looking for doers, not hearers. In my early years as a believer, I acted promptly on God’s word after every sermon. For instance, when we were told that worldly music would hinder our spiritual growth, my wife and I destroyed our record albums of popular Nigerian musicians like King Sunny Ade, Ebenezer Obey and others. Beloved, in this kingdom, we are like soldiers. Soldiers don’t argue, grumble or delay obeying orders. They make haste to obey orders from their superiors. This is what is expected of us as soldiers of Christ. Every Biblical message is an order that must be carried out without delay. If after hearing God’s word with conviction you failed to do it that same day, you will observe that by the following day, your commitment to do it would have reduced. If you don’t do it in a week, you may never do it.

Furthermore, if you want to satisfy the deepest longing of God, you must do exactly what He tells you to do the way He wants it and when He wants it.

REFLECTION:

Do you obey God’s word promptly?

HYMN: When We Walk With The Lord

  1. When we walk with the Lord
    In the light of His word,
    What a glory He sheds on our way!
    While we do His good will,
    He abides with us still,
    And with all who will trust and obey.

Chorus:
Trust and obey!
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
but to trust and obey.

  1. Not a shadow can rise,
    Not a cloud in the skies,
    But His smile quickly drives it away;
    Not a doubt nor a fear,
    Not a sigh nor a tear,
    Can abide while we trust and obey.
  2. Not a burden we bear,
    Not a sorrow we share,
    But our toil He doth richly repay;
    Not a grief nor a loss,
    Not a frown nor a cross,
    But is blest if we trust and obey.
  3. But we never can prove
    The delights of His love,
    Until all on the altar we lay,
    For the favour He shows,
    For the joy He bestows,
    Are for them who will trust and obey.
  4. Then in fellowship sweet
    We will sit at His feet,
    Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
    What He says we will do,
    Where He sends we will go;
    Never fear, only trust and obey.
