READ: John 4:7-29

  1. There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.
  2. (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)
  3. Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
  4. Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
  5. The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?
  6. Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?
  7. Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
  8. But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
  9. The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.
  10. Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.
  11. The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:
  12. For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.
  13. The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.
  14. Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.
  15. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.
  16. Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
  17. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
  18. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
  19. The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.
  20. Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.
  21. And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?
  22. The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,
  23. Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Corinthians 10:14-33, Psalms 142-144

MESSAGE:

One can say that the woman in our Bible reading for today was emotionally battered, having lived with 5 husbands and counting, but after the encounter with Jesus, she became an evangelist who went about telling the entire village about Jesus. In John 8:4-11, there is also the story of a woman caught in the act of adultery. According to the Law of Moses, she ought to have been stoned to death but Jesus discharged and acquitted her in the presence of her accusers. Also, He gave her a chance to start all over.

My child, how far do you think you have gone in that sin? Paul did worse when he was Saul, yet, Christ saved him and he became an apostle. It does not matter how far you have gone. The blood of Jesus is the most powerful cleansing agent that cleans without leaving a spot. The beautiful thing also is that after He has washed you in His blood, you will become as good as new.

You can have a new beginning in Christ today; all you need to do is ask for His forgiveness. Ask Him to wash you in His blood and sin no more.

KEY POINT:

The blood of Jesus offers a sinner a new beginning.

HYMN: There Shall Be Showers Of Blessing

  1. “There shall be showers of blessing:”
    This is the promise of love;
    There shall be seasons refreshing,
    Sent from the Saviour above.

CHORUS
Showers of blessing,
Showers of blessing we need:
Mercy-drops round us are falling,
But for the showers we plead.

  1. “There shall be showers of
    blessing,”
    Precious reviving again;
    Over the hills and the valleys,
    Sound of abundance of rain.
  2. “There shall be showers of blessing;”
    Send them upon us, Oh Lord;
    Grant to us now a refreshing,
    Come and now honour Thy Word.
  3. “There shall be showers of blessing:”
    Oh, that today they might fall,
    Now as to God we’re confessing,
    Now as on Jesus we call!
  4. “There shall be showers of blessing,”
    If we but trust and obey;
    There shall be seasons refreshing,
    If we let God have His way.
