READ: Matthew 7:16-20
- Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
- Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
- A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
- Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
- Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Chronicles 28-29, John 11:47-57
MESSAGE:
A tree is known by its fruits. This means that the quality of a tree is known not by its appearance but by the quality of the fruits it produces. Many young people fall victim of false prophets and teachers who deceive them through prophecies, speaking in tongues and miraculous performances. They forget that even Satan can transform into an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14 ) and anyone can become his prey if you don’t have the Spirit of God. Satan can imitate spiritual gifts but not the fruit of the Spirit because the fruit grows in you by the help of the Holy Spirit.
Thus, any Christian who lies, cheats, steals, fornicates etcetera, irrespective of how close to God he or she may claim to be, is not a child of God. The only way to identify a true child of God is when he or she exhibits the fruit of the Spirit daily as stated in Galatians 5:22-23 which says:
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”
ACTION POINT:
Spot the fruit you lack and ask the Holy Spirit for help today.
HYMN 7: CHRISTIAN SEEK NOT YET REPOSE
- Christian, seek not yet repose,
Hear thy guardian angel say,
“Thou art in the midst of foes:
Watch and pray! - Principalities and powers,
Mustering their unseen array,
Wait for thine unguarded hours:
“Watch and pray! - Gird thy heavenly armour on,
Wear it every night and day,
Ambushed lies the evil one:
“Watch and pray! - Hear the victors who overcame;
Still they mark each warrior’s way,
All with one sweet voice exclaim,
“Watch and pray! - Hear, above all, hear thy Lord,
Him thou lovest to obey;
Hide within thy heart His word,
“Watch and pray! - Watch, as if on that alone
Hung the issue of the day;
Pray, that help may be sent down:
“Watch and pray!”
