TOPIC: Know Your Adversaries [Open Heaven for Teens 31 January 2024]

MEMORISE: And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. Luke 18:3

READ: Exodus 2:11-12

11 And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren.

12 And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.

MESSAGE

A fellow’s adversaries could be internal or external, however, an internal adversary is more dangerous. In David’s case, Goliath was an external adversary, and it was easy to cut his head off, whereas his internal adversary was lust, which got him into serious trouble that his descendants are still paying for. Your internal adversary is your weakness.

From today’s memory verse, ‘Avenge me of mine adversaries’ only shows that the widow knew her adversaries. If you have not located your adversaries, you need to pray. In our Bible reading for today, Moses discovered in Egypt that his temper was his adversary. If the devil discovers your weaknesses before you, he will keep attacking you in those areas. Once you have known your adversaries, mention them to God, and He will help you overcome them.

Beloved, until you overcome your adversaries with the help of God, the enemy will keep using them against you. Once you overcome them, do not let them rise again. I pray that God will help you, in Jesus’ name.

ACTION POINT

Mention your internal adversaries, pray about them and determine to overcome them.

HYMN 20 – Christian, Seek Not Yet Repose

1 Christian, seek not yet repose;
Hear thy guardian angel say,
“Thou art in the midst of foes:
Watch and pray!”

2 Principalities and powers ,
Mustering their unseen array,
Wait for thy unguarded hours:
“Watch and pray.”

3 Gird thy heavenly armour on;
Wear it every night and day
Ambush’d lies the evil one:
“Watch and pray.”

4 Hear the victors who o’ercame;
Still they mark each warrior’s way;
All with one sweet voice exclaim,
“Watch and pray!”

5 Watch, as if on that alone
Hung the issue of the day;
Pray, that help may be sent down:
Watch and pray.

6 Hear, above all, hear thy Lord,
Him thou lovest to obey;
Hide within thy heart His word
“Watch and pray!”

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Exodus 12:14-13:16; Matthew 20:29-21:22
