47 When evening came, the boat was in the middle of the lake, and he was alone on land.
48 He saw the disciples straining at the oars, because the wind was against them. About the fourth watch of the night he went out to them, walking on the lake. He was about to pass by them,
49 but when they saw him walking on the lake, they thought he was a ghost. They cried out,
50 because they all saw him and were terrified.
51 Immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” Then he climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down. They were completely amazed,
Bible In One Year: Exodus 37-38; Matthew 23:23-39
MESSAGE:
Bible Scholars have found that ‘fear not appears 365 times in the Bible, meaning that one is sufficient for each day. Why then should you be afraid? After the death of Moses, God Himself chose Joshua as the leader of the Israelites. Joshua must have been afraid, having walked and worked with Moses, the meekest man on earth who didn’t find it easy to lead the Israelites. At a time, Moses called them stiff-necked people. He was also disqualified from entering the Promised Land because of these same people. Anyone in Joshua’s shoes would have doubted his ability to lead the people. Maybe he doubted himself too God must have read fear in him to tell him the words in our memory verse for today.
What are your fears? Confront them through the word of God. Search through the Bible for passages that speak about your fears. Write them out and paste them on your wall, locker, bedside, book, laptop et cetera. Constantly l speak the word of God to that situation.
Key Point:
You can confront your fears by speaking the word of God
Hymn 16: My Faith Looks Up To Thee
- My faith looks up to Thee,
Thou Lamb of Calvary,
Savior divine!
Now hear me while I pray,
Take all my guilt away,
Oh, let me from this day
Be wholly Thine! - May Thy rich grace impart
Strength to my fainting heart,
My zeal inspire!
As Thou hast died for me,
Oh, may my love to Thee
Pure, warm and changeless be,
A living fire! - While life’s dark maze I tread,
And griefs around me spread,
Be Thou my guide;
Bid darkness turn to day,
Wipe sorrow’s tears away,
Nor let me ever stray
From Thee aside. - When ends life’s transient dream,
When death’s cold sullen stream
Shall o’er me roll;
Blest Savior, then, in love,
Fear and distrust remove;
Oh, bear me safe above,
A ransomed soul.
