TOPIC: Renaming Situations [Open Heaven for Teens 5 November 2021]

MEMORISE: And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. Genesis 2:19

READ: Romans 4:17
(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Jeremiah 40-42, Hebrews 2:1-18

MESSAGE:

Today’s Bible reading expatriates Abraham’s story. Though he was childless for many years, God renamed him a father of many nations. This revelation gave Abraham a new mind-set that eventually birthed his miracle. It is not what people call you that matters but what you answer to. The Bible says that God calls those things which be not as though they were (Romans 4:17). He sees glory in every situation irrespective of your reality. The next time someone insults your looks, don’t be sad, rename the situation. Just tell them, you’re the apple of Gods eye.

The name a thing or event is called is important not only to men but also to God. God was keen on what Adam would call each animal because it would provide a means of identification, distinct destiny as well as chart for them a mode of conduct or behavioural pattern. So, if you fail an exam, don’t call yourself a failure. Rather, say, I just discovered that I have to put in extra efforts in order to succeed. This attitude will gear you towards doing better and not getting depressed. As you grow in your relationship with God, you can speak forth changes in your life and situations and see them come to pass.

HYMN: I’M PRESSING ON THE UPWARD WAY

  1. I’m pressing on
    the upward way,
    New heights I’m gaining
    every day;
    Still praying as I onward bound,
    “Lord, plant my feet
    on higher ground”.

CHORUS
Lord, lift me up and let me stand,
By faith on heaven’s table-land;
Where love and joy
and light abound,
Lord, plant my feet
on higher ground.

  1. My heart has no desire to stay,
    Where doubts arise
    and fears dismay;
    Though some may dwell
    where these abound,
    My constant aim
    is higher ground.
  2. Beyond the mist
    I fain would rise,
    To rest beneath
    unclouded skies,
    Above earth’s turmoil
    peace is found
    By those who dwell
    on higher ground.
  3. I long to scale
    the utmost height,
    Though rough the way,
    and hard the fight,
    My song while climbing shall
    resound
    Lord lead me on
    to higher ground.
  4. Lord lead me up
    the mountain side,
    I dare not climb
    without my Guide;
    And heaven gained,
    I’ll gaze around,
    With grateful heart from higher
    ground.
