Topic: Shun Peer Pressure I [Open Heaven for Teens 6 February 2021]

Memorise: Don’t live any longer the way this world lives. Let your way of thinking be completely changed. Then you will be able to test what God wants for you. And you will agree that what he wants is right. His plan is good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:2

Read: Romans 12:1-2

1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.

2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Bible In One Year: Exodus 39-40; Matthew 24:1-22

MESSAGE:

Merriam Webster’s defines peer pressure as a feeling that one must do the same things as other people of ones age and social group in order to be liked or respected by them. The question then is ‘why do you want to be respected by your peers?’ First, you need to know that you are different from your peers, especially the ones who don’t know God, you are royalty. 1 Peter 2:9 says:

“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an hoy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvellous light:”

You are a daughter or son of the Most High God Those who are royalty don’t misbehave. Hence, when you join your peers to do what is wrong, you degrade yourself to the level of a servant, Also, you should be bothered about what God, and not a friend or classmate Thinks about you. Before you join them to sing that ungodly song, prank an innocent junior or mate, wear the skimpy skirt or crazy hairstyle, ask yourself would Jesus do this?

Key Point:

You are different

Hymn 14: Let Others See Jesus In You

  1. While passing through this world of sin,
    And others your life shall view
    Be clean and pure without, within,
    Let others see Jesus in you.

Chorus:
Let others see Jesus in you,
Let others see Jesus in you;
Keep telling the story
Be faithful and true,
Let others see Jesus in you.

  1. Your life’s a book before their eyes,
    They’re reading it through and through;
    Say, does it point them to the skies,
    Do others see Jesus in you?
  2. What joy ’twill be at set of sun,
    In mansions beyond the blue,
    To find some souls that you have won
    Let others see Jesus in you.
  3. Then live for Christ both day and night,
    Be faithful, be brave, and true,
    And lead the lost to life and light;
    Let others see Jesus in you.
