Topic: Shun Peer Pressure II [Open Heaven for Teens 7 February 2021]

Memorise: As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another. Proverbs 27:17

Read: Romans 12:1-2

1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.

2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

MESSAGE:

Facing peer pressure as a teen may be unavoidable. What matters however. is how you handle it. For instance, you see your friends ‘balling’, and they look really cool. Maybe you are in the higher institution and you find out that those who party in your class perform excellently academically and you wonder how. Yours might be that all your friends have boyfriends and you are left out of the fun’. My child, nothing is new under the sun. All those who you think are ‘balling’ today will face the consequences of their actions tomorrow. Rather than think about what you are missing, think about what you will gain tomorrow. Think about the love the Heavenly Father has for you and shun any ungodly love.

One of the ways to shun peer pressure is to make friends with people of like minds. Make godly friends and encourage one another. Study the word of God together, exhort one another, renew your mind through the word of God, go to decent places together, read decent books. Get busy. Never conform to the ways of the world.

Key Point:

You can be different.

Hymn 12: I’m Pressing On The Upward Way

  1. I’m pressing on the upward way,
    New heights I’m gaining everyday;
    Still praying as I onward bound
    “Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.”

Chorus:
Lord, lift me up and let me stand,
By faith, on Heaven’s table-land;
Where love, and joy, and light abound,
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.

  1. My heart has no desire to stay
    Where doubts arise, and fears dismay;
    Though some may dwell where these abound,
    My constant aim is higher ground.
  2. Beyond the mist I fain would rise,
    To rest beneath unclouded skies,
    Above earth’s turmoil peace is found
    By those who dwell on higher ground.
  3. I long to scale the utmost height,
    Though rough the way, and hard the fight,
    My song while climbing, shall resound
    Lord, lead me on to higher ground.
  4. Lord, lead me up the mountain side
    I dare not climb without my Guide;
    And, heaven gained, I’ll gaze around,
    With grateful heart from higher ground.
