MEMORISE: Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Matthew 5:6

READ: John 6:35-37 (KJV)

35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
36 But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.
37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Matthew 6; Genesis 18-19

MESSAGE:

Anyone who is hungry for righteousness will be filled because Jesus said in John 6:35 that He is the bread of life and whosoever hungers and thirsts for Him shall never be hungry or thirsty.

To hunger for righteousness means to have a longing for God. It also means to seek Him wholeheartedly and want Him more than life. This was what earned David the title ‘A man after God’s heart (Acts 13:22). David compared his longing after God to that of a deer that longs for water (Psalm 42:1). Research has shown that the deer sweats a lot, which results in itching. When the deer’s body itches, it becomes desperate to get into the water in order to soothe its hide. At that time, it would take any risk in the jungle just to get into water. This is the kind of desperation for righteousness that God expects from every child of His. He expects us to hunger for righteousness since He is righteousness personified.

My child, rather than long after food or material things, crave righteousness and watch God supply other things to you as promised in His word (Matthew 6:33). Thirst for righteousness and get living water that flows from the throne of God.

KEY POINT: Whosoever hungers and thirsts after righteousness will be filled with both spiritual and physical food.

HYMN: Sing hymn 5
