TOPIC: Relationship With A Purpose [Open Heaven for Teens 8 July 2023]
MEMORISE: Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend. Proverbs 27:17
READ: 1 Samuel 18:1-5
1 And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.
2 And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father’s house.
3 Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.
4 And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.
5 And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Proverbs 27-29
MESSAGE
Christian teenagers build ties outside their families by getting involved in relationships that sometimes graduate from friendship to dating. While these relationships are an exciting time for you, they also come with their own issues and hazards. There is a lot of growing up to do in all aspects of relationships, and having good guidance is essential because the relationships you keep are directly linked to fulfilling your destiny. If you build and keep the right ones, your journey becomes easier and lighter, while the wrong ones will either slow you down or take you off the path of life.
I advise that you network with people in places that look like where you are going. For example, if you wish to become the youngest l Vice-chancellor in Africa (which was my dream before the Lord called me into full-time ministry). you should focus on relationships within the academic world and develop relationships with people who will encourage you to rise through the ranks.
Also, don’t allow any friendship to graduate into dating now, as it will only distract you from fulfilling your goal and lead to sin.
REFLECTION:
Are your relationships beneficial or detrimental to your destiny?
HYMN 19: Jesus Loves Me! This I Know
- Jesus loves me! this I know,
For the Bible tells me so;
Little ones to Him belong;
They are weak, but He is strong.
CHORUS
Yes, Jesus loves me,
Yes, Jesus loves me,
Yes, Jesus loves me,
The Bible tells me so.
- Jesus loves me He who died,
Heaven’s gate to open wide,
He will wash away my sin,
Let His little child come in. - Jesus loves me, loves me still,
Tho’ I’m very weak and ill
From His shining throne on high
He will watch me where I lie. - Jesus loves me He will stay
Close beside me all the way,
If I love Him when I die
He will take me home on high.
