READ: Ecclesiastes 10:1-3

  1. Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour: so doth a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour.
  2. A wise man’s heart is at his right hand; but a fool’s heart at his left.
  3. Yea also, when he that is a fool walketh by the way, his wisdom faileth him, and he saith to every one that he is a fool.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Proverbs 13-14, 1 Corinthians 16:1-24

MESSAGE:

Two biblical names many people don’t want to bear are Cain and Judas Iscariot just because of their foolish acts of murder and greed. A teenager’s efforts, denials and sacrifices geared towards maintaining a good name or family reputation are worth more than millions of naira. Some children receive favours because of their family name. For instance, if you are one of the same tribe or bear the surname of a popular and influential person, when you introduce yourself to people who know the person, they will naturally give you a friendly reception even if they later find out that you’re not related to that good public figure. On the other hand, people would be hostile to you at the first introduction even if you are from a wealthy family that lacks a good name.

A good name is to be preferred over anything; it can open doors unto you even in places you least expected. It attracts blessings while a bad name attracts curses. Which do you prefer? One foolish act can destroy all you and your family have been building for years. Therefore, be mindful of your actions especially in public.

KEY POINT:

A good name will bring value to you and your family from generation to generation.

HYMNS: When We Walk With The Lord

  1. When we walk with the Lord
    In the light of His word,
    What a glory He sheds on our way!
    While we do His good will,
    He abides with us still,
    And with all who
    will trust and obey.

CHORUS
Trust and obey!
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
but to trust and obey.

  1. Not a shadow can rise,
    Not a cloud in the skies,
    But His smile quickly drives it away;
    Not a doubt nor a fear,
    Not a sigh nor a tear,
    Can abide while
    we trust and obey.
  2. Not a burden we bear,
    Not a sorrow we share,
    But our toil He doth richly repay;
    Not a grief nor a loss,
    Not a frown nor a cross,
    But is blest if we trust and
    obey.
  3. But we never can prove
    The delights of His love,
    Until all on the altar we lay,
    For the favour He shows,
    For the joy He bestows,
    Are for them who will trust
    and obey.
  4. Then in fellowship sweet
    We will sit at His feet,
    Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
    What He says we will do,
    Where He sends we will go;
    Never fear, only trust and obey.
