TOPIC: God Hates Backsliding (Open Heaven for Teens 8 September 2024)

MEMORISE: And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. – Luke 9:62

READ: Hebrews 10:35-39

35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.

36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

37 For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.

38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

MESSAGE:

Backsliders are people who return to their old lifestyles of sin after being born again. Such fellows turn their backs on God to pursue their desires. Backsliding is a gradual process, and it starts from the heart.

An example of a backslider in the Bible is Demas (2 Timothy 4:10). He started with God as a follower of Apostle Paul, but unfortunately, he backslid. May you end well, in Jesus’ name. God does not hate backsliders; He only hates the act. The Bible says in 2 Peter 2:21: “For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.”

I want you to examine your life today. What are the good things you were doing before that you are no longer doing? Have you stopped preaching as you used to? Have you reduced your prayer and study time with the Holy Spirit? When was the last time you had a personal fast? Have you stopped serving in the household of God? If you have backslidden, repent now and ask God for mercy before it is too late.

PRAYER POINT
Father, please help me to serve You until the end.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Isaiah 1:1-2:22, 2 Corinthians 10:1-18

HYMN 56: Nearer, My God To Thee

1 Nearer, My God, To Thee,
Nearer To Thee;
E’en Though It Be A Cross
That Raiseth Me,
Still All My Song Shall Be,
Nearer, My God, To Thee,
Nearer, My God, To Thee,
Nearer To Thee!

2 Though Like The Wanderer,
The Sun Gone Down,
Darkness Be Over Me,
My Rest A Stone,
Yet In My Dreams I’d Be
Nearer, My God, To Thee,
Nearer, My God, To Thee,
Nearer To Thee!

3 There Let The Way Appear
Steps Unto Heaven;
All That Thou Send’st To Me
In Mercy Given;
Angels To Beckon Me
Nearer, My God, To Thee,
Nearer To Thee!

4 Then With My Waking Thoughts
Bright With Thy Praise,
Out Of My Stony Griefs
Bethel I’ll Raise;
So By My Woes To Be
Nearer, My God, To Thee,
Nearer To Thee!

5 Or If On Joyful Wing
Cleaving The Sky,
Sun, Moon, And Stars Forgot,
Upward I Fly,
Still All My Song Shall Be,
Nearer, My God, To Thee;
Nearer To Thee!
