Topic: To Love God [Open Heavens for Teens 13 July 2019]

Memorise: “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” – John 14:15

Read: Deuteronomy 10:12-22

12 And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,

13 To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?

14 Behold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens is the LORD’S thy God, the earth also, with all that therein is.

15 Only the LORD had a delight in thy fathers to love them, and he chose their seed after them, even you above all people, as it is this day.

16 Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked.

17 For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward:

18 He doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment.

19 Love ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

20 Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God; him shalt thou serve, and to him shalt thou cleave, and swear by his name.

21 He is thy praise, and he is thy God, that hath done for thee these great and terrible things, which thine eyes have seen.

22 Thy fathers went down into Egypt with threescore and ten persons; and now the LORD thy God hath made thee as the stars of heaven for multitude.

Bible In One Year: Psalm 10-12, Acts 17:16-34

MESSAGE:

To love God is to always do His will. If you love someone, you will not want to hurt the fellow. You will always lookout for the good of that fellow whether he is present or not. If anyone advises you to hurt the fellow, you will tag the person as someone not to be close to. This is exactly how we are to behave if we claim that we love God.

You cannot love God and still be committing sin. If you make a mistake to hurt God by committing sin, you should go to Him in deep remorse confessing your sin and asking for forgiveness. David is an example of someone who truly loved God. Every time he made a mistake, he was always remorseful, begging God for forgiveness and after God had forgiven him, he never made the same mistake twice.

Reflection:
Do you love God?

Hymn 7:

1 I am Thine 0 Lord, I have heard Thy voice,
And it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise in the arms of faith
And be closer drawn to Thee.

Chorus:
Draw me nearer, nearer blessed Lord
To the cross where Thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer blessed Lord,
To Thy precious, bleeding side.

2 Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,
By the pow’r of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
And my will be lost in Thine.

3 Oh, the pure delight of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God
I commune as friend with friend!

4 There are depths of love that I cannot know
Till I cross the narrow sea;
There are heights of joy that I may not reach
Till I rest in peace with Thee.
