Topic: Contentment [Open Heavens for Teens 23 July 2019]

Memorise: “But godliness with contentment is great gain.” – 1 Timothy 6:6

Read: 1 Timothy 6:6-10

6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.

7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Bible In One Year: Psalm 38-40, Acts 23:12-35

MESSAGE:

Contentment is a virtue that every child of God should have. You teenagers especially need to have this virtue instilled in you early in life. Contentment is when you may not have as much as others, but you are happy with what you have. Do you look at your colleagues’ possession in envy? You need contentment. Whatever you have, use with pride, knowing that your tomorrow will be greater. The phone that everyone was pursuing three years ago is now an old model phone, so those who are never content are running an ending race. Give yourself rest and use what you have confidently. Pay attention to being the best in the things that really matter like your academics, then very soon, you will be able to easily afford all the things that your mates are running after now.

Key Point:
There is great gain in contentment and great loss in discontentment.

Hymn 6:

  1. Our God, our help in ages past,
    Our hope for years to come,
    Our shelter from the stormy blast,
    And our eternal home:
  2. Under the shadow of your throne
    Your saints have dwelt secure;
    Sufficient is your arm alone,
    And our defense is sure
  3. Before the hills in order stood
    Or earth received its frame,
    From everlasting you are God,
    To endless years the same.
  4. A thousand ages in your sight
    Are like an evening gone
    Short as the watch that ends the night
    Before the rising sun.
  5. Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
    Soon bears us all away;
    We fly forgotten, as a dream
    Does at the opening day.
  6. Our God, our help in ages past,
    Our hope for years to come,
    Still be our guard while troubles last,
    And our eternal home!
