Memorise: “In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.” – Proverbs 10:19

Read: James 3:1-10

1 My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.

2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

3 Behold, we put bits in the horses’ mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.

4 Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.

5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!

6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:

8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.

10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

Bible In One Year: Psalm 70-72, Romans 4

MESSAGE:

God is interested in how you use your tongue. No matter how spiritual you are, if you cannot control your tongue you will keep falling into sin.

For some people talking to much is their weakness. If you have been told by more than two people that you talk too much, then you are probably one of such people. Pray to God to help you control your tongue, then consciously restrain yourself from talking often, especially when you don’t need to talk. I have gone through the process of putting my tongue under control and I must tell you, though it requires a lot of effort, all the effort is worth it.

When you don’t talk too much, people begin to see you as wise and respect you more. More importantly, your likelihood of committing sin reduces greatly.

When you talk less, you become more focused and not easily distracted and not easily distracted by frivolities around you. It is truly gainful to bridle your tongue.

Prayer Point:

Father, please give me the grace to talk less in Jesus’ name.

Hymn 6:

  1. Our God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
    And our eternal home:
  2. Under the shadow of your throne
    Your saints have dwelt secure;
    Sufficient is your arm alone,
    And our defense is sure
  3. Before the hills in order stood
    Or earth received its frame,
    From everlasting you are God,
    To endless years the same.
  4. A thousand ages in your sight
    Are like an evening gone
Short as the watch that ends the night
    Before the rising sun.
  5. Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
    Soon bears us all away;
We fly forgotten, as a dream
    Does at the opening day.
  6. Our God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Still be our guard while troubles last,
    And our eternal home!
