Topic: Lust Or Love? [Open Heavens for Teens 31 May 2019]

Memorise: “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” – Romans 5:8

Read: Romans 5:7-8

7. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.

8. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Bible In One Year: 2 Chronicles 1-3, John 12:1-19

MESSAGE:

In a true love situation, the lover is the subject, while the loved is the object, and the subject is the one who seeks the welfare of the loved, whether the object deserves it or not. Our Bible reading says Jesus died for us at a point when no one else could have. While we ere separated from Him as sinners with enmity between us, He died for us. What love can be greater than that of Jesus Christ? Most of the times we misunderstand the true meaning of love. In most cases where love is mentioned nowadays, lust is what is actually in action. Lust is selfish, self centered and seeks to exploit the object. Lust just wants to satisfy its desires and as soon as it gets what it wants, the object becomes nothing to it.

Just as it is in human relationships, so is it in our relationship with God. Many people who claim yo love God do not love Him but are only desirous of what they can get from Him; He has become an object that they can use to get what they want (John 6:25-27). Do you love God? Examine yourself to see that your love is not really lust.

Reflection:
Are you seeking God or his works?

Hymn 10:

  1. What a friend we have in Jesus,
    All our sins and griefs to bear!
    What a privilege to carry
    Everything to God in prayer!
    O what peace we often forfeit,
    O what needless pain we bear,
    All because we do not carry
    Everything to God in prayer!
  2. Have we trials and temptations?
    Is there trouble anywhere?
    We should never be discouraged;
    Take it to the Lord in prayer!
    Can we find a Friend so faithful?
    Who will all our sorrows share?
    Jesus knows our every weakness,
    Take it to the Lord in prayer!
  3. Are we weak and heavy laden,
    Cumbered with a load of care?
    Precious Savior, still our refuge,
    Take it to the Lord in prayer.
    Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
    Take it to the Lord in prayer!
    In His arms He’ll take and shield You;
    You wilt find a solace there.
