Topic: Too Close To Sodom [Open Heavens for Teens 5 July 2019]
Memorise: “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.” – 1 John 2:15, 17
Read: Genesis 13:10-12
10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.
11 Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.
12 Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom.
Bible In One Year: Job 31-32, Acts 13:1-23
MESSAGE:
Today’s devotion is speaking of the dangers of loving the things of the world more than heavenly things. I know every young boy and girl desires to use the latest gadgets, wear the latest designs, mingle with the popular ones, party and have fun. No one is saying you shouldn’t enjoy your teenage years, but you must remember that the love of the world will lead to destruction. You must ensure that as a teenager, you maintain the godly way of doing things. Do not be covetous of what others have, do not be attracted by the fascinating and dazzling things that the world can give you, always remember that everything will surely fade away.
Lot’s case is an example of someone who go to involved with the things of the world. He was intrigued by what the land of Sodom had to offer and at the end if the day he lost everything when Sodom and Gomorrah got burnt. As teenagers, you have the opportunity of avoiding the mistakes some of your parents made by ensuring that you are are not caught in the web of love of the world.
Prayer Point:
O Lord, remove from my heart every live for the world.

Hymn 7:
1 I am Thine 0 Lord, I have heard Thy voice,
And it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise in the arms of faith
And be closer drawn to Thee.
Chorus:
Draw me nearer, nearer blessed Lord
To the cross where Thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer blessed Lord,
To Thy precious, bleeding side.
2 Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,
By the pow’r of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
And my will be lost in Thine.
3 Oh, the pure delight of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God
I commune as friend with friend!
4 There are depths of love that I cannot know
Till I cross the narrow sea;
There are heights of joy that I may not reach
Till I rest in peace with Thee.
